Our History
A brainstorming session in early 2005 between Steve Klein and Mike Harbour about industry growth led to the first location opening in 2006 in Swift Current. The pair, along with Brad Leagult, had the industry covered in Alberta, and recognized the overwhelming need in southern Saskatchewan.
Following the decision to open the Swift Current location, Dusty Sauder was hired to provide expertise in operating farms, and recognizing their imminent needs that Western Ag Systems could fill. After 5 years of service, Dusty and his family left SK to pursue ministry work. Following his departure, an administrative position and parts position was added to the company.
In Summer of 2013, the name was officially changed to Western Ag Systems, as suggested by Teena Klein. The name spurred from the prominent offering of the team – systems to improve production and efficiency, while reducing long term costs.
While 2013 was a somewhat quiet year, two large-scale jobs were completed; a full grain-handling system at Abbey Colony, followed by a fracsand plant in Whitlaw, AB. The following year was a very busy year, and brought Wayne Sundby to Western Ag Systems, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in designing, building and servicing poultry and livestock barns. Wayne led the opening of a Saskatoon office, and landed the first large-scale barn project at Eagle Creek Colony.
Throughout the years the company continued to grow, expanding capabilities and offerings, saw Dusty Sauder return in 2019, and soon after, merged with the AgriHub Family of Companies. Western Ag Systems has since outgrown their Saskatoon location, relocating a few blocks away to 2327 Faithfull Ave in October 2023.
Steve and Dusty attribute the growth of the company to the personal relationships the team has curated over the years. From guiding growth on colonies, to attending customers-turned-friends weddings, to playing ambulance in a pinch – we would be nowhere without the strong foundation the founders and original team has laid for us.
